Acrylic on Canvas | 30cm by 30cm | Painted in May 2012
This was the second set of painting that I did, and I wanted to paint something that was (and still is) close to my heart. This painting reflects the state of censorship within a certain country, where a certain section of a certain statute prohibits the display of a certain phenomenon in a certain kind of light (confused yet?). Sometimes I find it funny how society so willingly lets its fear of the unknown obstruct progress.
Maybe our society is still a little too conservative. Maybe it’s not ready to break free of the misconception that the world is all black and white. Maybe it’s not ready to acknowledge that, sometimes, grey areas do exist too. And although change is always slow, I’m still hopeful that the day will come when society decides to move on and finally take a step forward.
